MANISTIQUE (2018) — Elise Miotke, the mother of four small children, was a tutor working only four hours a week and attending Bay De Noc Community College when she decided to come to Michigan Works! for assistance. Miotke needed to take the NCLEX for her Licensed Practitioner Nurse (LPN) Certification but was unsure of how to pay for it. After speaking with a case manager, it was determined that Miotke met the requirements for WIOA: Adult and was enrolled in the program.
Once she passed the NCLEX and obtained her LPN license, she continued schooling to become a Registered Nurse (RN). When Miotke was ready to take her RN NCLEX, WIOA funding was utilized to pay for the test. She passed, obtained her RN license, and started looking for a job.
Miotke’s case manager knew she was seeking employment and told her about a Michigan Works! job fair that Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital would be attending. At the job fair, she was introduced to the Human Resources Director at Schoolcraft Memorial and was hired on the spot. After her employment offer, Michigan Works! provided Miotke with a new uniform to wear to work.
Elise Miotke said “it would not have been possible to pay my NCLEX fees if it wasn’t for Michigan Works! I am very grateful for all of the help and support Michigan Works! has given me.”
