NEWBERRY (October 4, 2018)—  Industrial Trades Career Day was held at the Luce County Fairgrounds on October 4. This exciting event gave 600 high school students that opportunity to experience the construction industry and participate in hands-on demonstrations of bricklaying, concrete finishing, welding, carpentry, ironworking, and operating heavy machinery.
Industrial Trades Career Day is a cooperative effort between partnering organizations such as the Upper Peninsula Construction Council, Eastern Upper Peninsula School District, UPWARD Talent Council Michigan Works!, local trades, and support from area schools. This important activity supports talent development, addresses the needs of our local community, and promotes skilled trades.
UPWARD provided staff support, media coverage, construction-themed gifts, and an UPWARD branded backpack for students to carry gifts and brochures in. UPWARD would like to thank the Upper Peninsula Construction Council and all partnering organizations for giving students the opportunity to explore different career paths and putting on this awesome event!
